Advanced glycosylation of the phospholipid component of LDL is accompanied by the progressive oxidative modification of unsaturated fatty acid residues. Glycosylation of LDL apoB reduces its recognition by the LDL receptor and increases uptake through the scavenger receptor (see text for details).
